The internet is infamous for posting horror stories of “Photographers from hell”.

Why does that happen? How can those situations be avoided?

It seems like photography is to be a little misunderstood. It goes without saying that everyone’s story is different, however, there are a few pointers that we can give you so that you don’t turn out to be the couple with the next “exclusive story”.

This website was created so that families can start to understand the importance of choosing a photographer that’s RIGHT FOR THEM. It’s not always about who has the “best work”. That’s way too subjective. What you may have amazing, might not be so for someone else! Rather, it’s more about how the photographer makes you feel during your session (or your wedding day). Let’s say that you want to book that photographer whose work you LOVE. You decide to meet them for a coffee to talk more about their packages. You notice that the way they talk or their work ethics are little mismatched from yours. You figure “come on, doesn’t matter, I love their work. It will be great.” But, will it? By feeling a little uncomfortable around the photographer, you might become stressed and will eventually start hating your session (or your wedding day). Memories are strongly related to your emotions. According to Psychologist World the emotional distortion of memory encoding and recall seems to be counter-productive to the maintenance of an accurate view of the outside world, their influence may be better understood in terms of how it affects our attention, and how subject of our focus in turn affects what our memories encode. […] Whilst the process is still not fully understood, it is believed that the hippocampus and two amygdalae regions in the brain play key roles in processing both memories and emotions, and that interactions between the two may reinforce the link between memory and emotions.

One study which used tomography to monitor the amygdala found increased activity when remembering emotive stimuli, whether they were of a positive or negative nature. This means that whether you feel comfortable/Happy or Sad/Stressed during a momentous event (such as a session that’s special to you or your wedding day) stays with you throughout your life and the emotions felt during that day affect how you recall your momeries. At the end of the day, the last thing you will be thinking about is how GOOD their work seemed to be to you. All you will have on your mind is how awful you felt on, what’s supposed to be, a great day in your life. And that feeling will ultimately return every time you look at your photographs.

The fact is:  not every photographer is right for every couple. No matter how amazing their reviews are. You need to find a photographer that fits you.

These photographers will not, ever, ditch you the day before your wedding day, stop emailing you mid-year or arrive 3 hours late. We are professionals.
