why does
photography matter?

Is it really worth the investment?

Finding the money to invest in a good photographer can seem a little discouraging when you are planning a wedding. Between the dress, the food or the decor, it’s easy to want to give an equal “slice” of the budget to try and meet every need.

What couples often don’t realize however, is that photography has a much bigger importance that everything else.

Yes, fine. We are photographers so, why wouldn’t we say such a thing? Aren’t we a little bias? Actually No.  We chose to work in this field because of its importance in the world. Not the other way around.

THE POWER OF PHOTOGRAPHY

Photography has the power to change the world. You see it in the news every day. It records reality for everyone to see in an instant, using light and time to reproduce a moment, as it is perceived. Photographs also remind us of people, places, feelings, and stories.

Without photography, it would be very difficult to keep a vivid connection with our past.  They help define who we were in a specific moment in time.

Granted, you have lived through these moments. You were there. You felt the air, the kisses, the joy (or the pain) but… memories fade.  They also change based on your current life experiences. You might think that you remember something correctly but unless there’s proof, you’ll never be able to know for sure. With photography, you have a way to bring yourself back to those moment and give yourself the ability to communicate your history with others.

“Photography is language of pictures, the newest version of the oldest form of graphic communication. Unlike the spoken or written word, it is a form of communication that can be internationally understood. This, it seems to me, gives a photograph added meaning-and a photographer added responsibility. Since photographs can be so widely understood we should be concerned with whether what we have to say is worth saying, and whether we can say it well.

The essential purpose of photography is communication. […] Most of us take them because we want them seen by others. We wish or are compelled to inform, educate, entertain, reform, or share some experienced with others. Pictures are a photographer’s means of expression as a writer’s means are words. And as a writer must choose a major field of work -journalism, creative writing, biography, advertising, etc. So a photographer must choose a specific field, each field having a specific purpose.” – Quora.com

THE IMPORTANCE OF OUR JOB

Once a moment happens, it’s history forever. A good photographer understands the importance of that. Our job is to tell the story as it happens before it’s gone so that you can go on and tell your story for generations to come.  It’s not taken lightly in our circles.

We have nightmares about it. Our camera breaking, forgetting our batteries, losing our memory cards… It’s our ultimate fear. We care that much. We are put responsible of document the lives of strangers. Professional photographers will always take precautions to make sure that the job will get done currently the first time, every time. Because there’s no second chances in our world.

We buy extra batteries, extra cards, extra cameras, extra flashes, extra outfits for the off-chance that something might happen on your wedding day. We are always prepared for the worst.

This, unfortunately, costs money.

It’s impossible for us to charge 500$ for a package and be ready when something breaks. Professional photographers will never take that chance and go to your event with only one set of gear. This is why photography becomes an investment.

By taking the time to find a professional photographer, you are guaranteeing that your own history will be recorded in time. Without a photograph, an event becomes just a imaginary story to your kids.

WHY DOES PHOTOGRAPHY MATTER TO OUR PHOTOGRAPHERS?

“Our work is an intimate love letter to the individuality of each couple, the adventures you share, and the excitement of your future together. Chronicling the ephemeral moments of love that weddings and elopements are truly comprised of.” ~ Ella Mack

“Photography is an amazing way to celebrate this beautiful journey that life is. It is something that we can hold dear for the rest of our days, something that we can pass on, something that we can pick up and look back at again and again. It is the best way to help us to remember who we were in different periods of our life.” ~ Betina Brao

“Natural. Authentic. Artistic. Pure. Candid. Spontaneous. Wild. Raw. I’m certain photography is important because it makes these words alive. Photos have the power to tell our story when no one still there to do it. They leave a trace of our passions, our loves, our desires. So that new generations of our family can remember and maybe find a bit of themselves in who we have been.” ~ Raphaelle Granger

“Photography is the best form of communication for me. Every picture I take has a little piece of me in it.” ~ Brent Calis

“Photography tells a story which deserves to be remembered for decades to come.” ~ Sophie Asselin

“Photography let’s you keep history in your hands. Most of us, at one time in life, looks at a photograph and recreates the story that built to it. It also keeps moments frozen for eternity. How many of us took a picture in our hands, from a loved one, from a friend, from the newspaper… and re-imagined the story that led to that moment!” ~ Madi Rabih

“In a digital age where everything is consumed far to quickly and just as easily forgotten, there is something about a still photograph that makes you to stop for a moment and take it all in. This is the power a photograph has. This is why I photograph.” ~
Keith Pun
